Elections Composite:

An election composite will be prepared by the nominating committee and includes documentation submitted by all candidates for office who submit materials to the nominating committee by June 15, 2025.  This composite will include the photo, personal statement, listing of previous NMA offices, region/local society affiliation, and specialty information as submitted by the candidate.  This composite will be made available electronically to all HOD delegates on the NMA website.  Non-HOD members may request the composite by emailing nomination@nmanet.org.  Regional chairs are encouraged to discuss this information with their constituency.

Nomination Process for the Office of President-Elect for 2025:

An active member should declare their desire for candidacy for the Office of President-Elect one year prior to elections. Formal declaration is important to allow the membership to make an informed decision, which is in the spirit of the previously approved resolution in the compendium (350.226, 405.010).

General Nomination Process:

A member may indicate their self-nomination by submission of application and requested documentation for vetting to the nominating committee by the stated deadline of June 15th. All candidates submitting documentation to the committee by this deadline will be offered an interview with the nominating committee. All interviews will be recorded for review and transparency.

The nominating committee will deliberate on all information available to them prior to the Annual Meeting following the completion of all interviews. The nominating committee will prepare a slate of individuals to present to the House of Delegates.

Campaign Standards:

Candidates may produce campaign materials at their own expense to distribute to the membership and delegates at the Annual Clinical Meeting, as noted below. Electronic campaigning will be allowed as follows:

  • The candidate may send one PDF document, no greater than 2 pages, to the Nominations Committee for distribution via NMA by June 30, 2025. The document should contain information about the candidate seeking election, their qualifications and / or their vision for the position being sought.
  • The above communication will be sent electronically as one document. Again, the communication to the membership will be distributed from the national office, not by the candidate.
  • It is not advised that campaign emails be sent in any other way. Mass distribution of these emails to members may be looked upon unfavorably.
  • We ask at this time that the candidates refrain from using any social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Facebook (this is not an all-inclusive list) for campaigning. Use of social media for campaigning at this time will be looked upon unfavorably.
  • Candidates should not solicit the endorsement of members of the Nominating Committee.
  • Additional guidelines may be determined as the process for the meeting format is finalized.

Floor Nominations:

Floor nominations will take place the second (2nd) session of the House of Delegate for a member who has not previously submitted documentation to the nominating committee by the June 15, 2025 deadline who intends to run for an elected office from the floor.

The member will be asked to provide at a minimum:

  • Proof of an unencumbered license (copy of the unencumbered active license)
  • A current CV or resume
  • A written 1-page statement of interest

Proof of active NMA membership will be determined for confirmation at the time that the floor nomination is requested. This information will be reviewed and verified by the committee prior to the election to ensure that only candidates eligible for election are voted upon. It will be the purview of the nominations committee to determine whether an interview will be granted.

Election Process:

As per the NMA Constitution and By-Laws, the election of candidates will take place in the last session of the NMA House of Delegates 2025. The Nominating Committee will submit a slate of candidates to the HOD as part of the Nominating Committee report. Following the presentation of the candidates on the slate, the election will take place. At the time of the election, anyone that participated in the process and was deemed eligible to run for office that was not endorsed by the Nominations Committee will be included on the ballot and given the opportunity to be considered by the body. The election will take place using an electronic process as determined by the Speaker of the House.
