Apply Now for the HBCU-NMA Ancestral Mentorship Program (HNAM)

The National Medical Association and the Howard University College of Medicine have joined forces to mentor premedical/medical students. The HBCU-NMA Ancestral Mentorship Program (HNAM) is designed to increase and sustain the capacity for Black students enrolled in medical schools and those aspiring to go to medical school, to graduate and enter the medical profession. Undoubtedly, HNAM will also offer mentors the professional and personal satisfaction of sharing their knowledge and experiences with budding Black physicians but…WE NEED YOU!

We are looking for 5 -10 physicians from each of our six regions to commit to being mentors for premedical and medical students in 2025!

Please consider the following details:

Mentees: Howard University premedical and medical students, selected by a Steering Committee (other schools will be added over time)

Mentors: Committed practicing and retired physicians

Expectations: Monthly (at minimum) Mentor/Mentee interactions (initiated by the students) and quarterly program-wide meetings (two in-person: Colloquium and Convention, and two virtually)

Timeframe: One year commitment required, starting Winter, 2025

This program is well-aligned with NMA’s mission and well-timed. The following link is to one article in a growing body of evidence that further validates the need for this program.
