Melanie Hanna-Johnson graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine and did her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Oakland. She received her Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration (MHSA) as part of the On-Job/On-Campus program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, an Associate Professor in Clinical Medicine, and a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. She is a life-long Detroit resident and practices Internal Medicine there. She has held a number of leadership positions, including serving as a former Associate Program Director of the Wayne State University School of Medicine Residency program and is currently the Chairperson of the Internal Medicine Search Oversight committee, whose mandate is to ensure a process that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Department of Internal Medicine at Wayne State University. Her research interests include Sexual and Reproductive Health Knowledge in African-American adults. She currently serves the National Medical Association as the Secretary of the House of Delegates.
