Washington, DC — The National Medical Association released the following statement by Richard Allen Williams, M.D, 117th President of the National Medical Association.
“The National Medical Association (NMA) is proud to endorse the nomination of Jerome Adams, MD, MPH, to become the next Surgeon General of the United States. Throughout his stellar career, Dr. Adams has worked to address health disparities with a particular focus on interventions that improve outcomes for a range of issues, including infant mortality, substance abuse, and the transmission of infectious disease. As Indiana State Health Commissioner, Dr. Adams recently played a leading role in addressing one of the largest outbreaks of HIV and Hepatitis C in the country. Dr. Adams is a member of the NMA local medical society in Indianapolis and credits Virginia A. Caine, MD, a member of the NMA Board of Trustees, as a mentor. The NMA believes that Dr. Adams’ ability to connect with culturally diverse populations, and his medical expertise make him an excellent candidate for this position.”
