Proclamation for
Dr. Frank Spencer Royal, Sr.
President of the National Medical Association (1981-1982), and
Former Chair of the NMA Board of Trustees
Whereas, the National Medical Association and its members lost a revered and much loved Past President, Past Chair of the Board of Trustees, and devoted member on February 2, 2026, with the death of Dr. Frank Spencer Royal, Sr., an internationally celebrated physician, a nationally recognized leader in medical education, and peerless innovator; and
Whereas, Dr. Royal was an ardent servant to the National Medical Association, an organization he zealously loved, led, and supported for many years; and
Whereas, Dr. Royal was a “leaders’ leader” for the Past Presidents Council, recognized for his elegant bearing, impeccable integrity, and deep commitment to the mission of the NMA; and
Whereas, Dr. Royal was nationally and internationally recognized for his contributions to medicine, medical education, and health care, receiving numerous honors and awards for his monumental contributions; and
Whereas, Dr. Royal was widely known for his selfless dedication to his patients, their families, underserved communities, as well as his home community; and
Whereas, Dr. Royal exhibited excellence in all his work and continuously exemplified his deep love and commitment to his family and his faith; and
Whereas, Dr. Royal is recognized as a true icon, and will forever be revered in the annals of the NMA and of Medicine in general; and
Whereas, so many are the beneficiaries of the leadership, mentorship, and friendship of Dr. Royal over generations;
Be It Resolved that our admired and respected friend, colleague, and physician, the dynamic pioneer and trailblazer who gave not only of his personal heart and efforts but also personal resources to further the National Medical Association and its ideals, Dr. Frank Spencer Royal, Sr., is accorded by the Past Presidents Council of the National Medical Association its highest recognition and honors. He will be sorely missed by all members, officers, staff, and friends of the NMA, who appreciate and reverence him and his remarkable legacy.
