NATIONAL BLACK WOMEN PHYSICIANS DAY – February 8th, 2024

The National Medical Association celebrates National Black Women Physicians’ Day!

Saturday, February 8th marks the 4th annual National Women Physicians Day to recognize the strides and embrace the legacy made by generations of black women doctors in medicine. February 8th is the birthday of Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, who in 1864 became the first African-American woman physician to become a Doctor of Medicine in the United States.

As National Women Physicians Day celebrates all women physicians, Black Women Physicians Day allows us to recognize our own unique history and give homage to the black women physicians who were trailblazers who forged the path for our women physician members. We are grateful to the many black women physicians who have contributed significantly to our esteemed organization and to the field of medicine.

As we celebrate our NMA women members, we want YOU to celebrate you! On Saturday let us make our presence known and let us take over social media. Share your stories or highlight a recent accomplishment. Post a video or a photo that shows you as a #BlackWomanInMedicine. And in true sisterhood tag another black woman physician and give them a special shout-out from the NMA! Engage with us on all platforms and use the hashtags to connect with black women physicians across the country. In the NMA every day is Black Women Physicians’ Day.
