We have a critical opportunity to speak up and make sure that our voices are heard on the proposed cuts to Medicaid.
As a member of the NMA and a physician, your voice carries tremendous weight. The proposed cuts to Medicaid are under consideration in Congress, and we must act swiftly to oppose them.
We are calling on all our physician members to take just a few minutes to contact your senators before Thursday, July 3, 2025, and urge them not to support these harmful cuts.
Please reach out to all senators but we are giving special attention to the senators in the following states: Maine, Alaska, North Carolina, and Arkansas.
Here’s how you can take action:
- Find your state’s senators by visiting Congress.gov.
- Call their office or send a message via their contact form. Phone calls often have the greatest impact.
- Identify yourself as a physician and constituent. Your role gives you credibility on the real-world impact of Medicaid funding.
- Use the following talking points as well as your own patient stories to encourage senators to reconsider voting in favor of these cuts
- Protecting Vulnerable Populations: Medicaid covers over 40% of U.S. births, including nearly half in rural areas. Cuts threaten maternal and child health, especially in underserved communities.
- Impact on Rural Healthcare: Reducing Medicaid funding risks closing rural hospitals and clinics, exacerbating access issues for seniors, veterans, and low-income families.
- Economic Consequences: Slashing Medicaid could lead to nearly 450,000 job losses in the healthcare sector, impacting providers and support staff nationwide.
- Increased Uncompensated Care: Cuts may force more patients into emergency departments, raising healthcare costs and burdening providers with unpaid care.
- Disproportionate Effects on Disabilities: Per capita caps could limit funding for essential services like home health and behavioral therapy, leading to institutionalization of individuals with disabilities.
- Confirm your participation by submitting this quick form. Your action helps us measure member engagement.
Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of patients and an essential part of the healthcare safety net. Cuts would have immediate, negative consequences for access to care, especially in underserved communities.
Thank you for using your voice to help protect Medicaid.
