The upcoming federal administration transition is likely to spark significant changes affecting civil rights and health care in the U.S. While the National Medical Association (NMA) is a non-partisan organization that rises to the occasion in any political climate, it is imperative that we remain steadfast in advocating to safeguard the critical gains that we have achieved in public health, diversity in our profession, and in medical education.
The NMA amplifies the voices of the 50,000 Black physicians in America and takes pride in being the conscience of healthcare. We are advocates for Black physicians, inclusive education and training for all physicians, and equitable healthcare for all – specifically supporting efforts to improve quality and access for underserved populations. This will not change. We encourage our members to identify and speak out on concerns about proposed changes that will have a negative impact on public health, physicians, and the communities we serve. Together, we can navigate these changes using our expertise, our voices, and the influence of the NMA.
