125th President, National Medical Association
The National Medical Association (NMA) is the nation’s oldest and largest organization representing Black physicians and health professionals in the U.S. and promotes the collective interests of physicians and patients of African descent.
Our purpose is and remains as follows:
Advancing health equity and eliminating disparities through advocacy, education and collaboration. We prioritize equitable access to quality care, especially for underserved communities, aiming to create a fairer, more inclusive health care system and improve health outcomes for all.
We are steadfast in our commitment to advancing health equity and eliminating disparities.
Many of the Executive Orders and changes being put forth by the current administration have a direct impact on the funding and information related to public health. Because of the direct impact on our profession, physicians and patients, the NMA is focused on the following:
- Review and strategic collaboration to preserve initiatives that affect health equity
- Amplifying our purpose and responding based on our organizational mission
- Working with elected and appointed officials and aligned organizations
As a nonpartisan organization, we have worked with leaders at the local, state and federal level for more than 100 years. We will continue to do so and will always operate to advance health equity, eliminate disparities and improve health outcomes.
