This #BlackHistoryMonth, we celebrate Dr. Myra A. Logan

Born in Tuskegee Alabama, Dr. Myra A. Logan was the youngest daughter of Suffragist Adela Logan and Tuskegee Institute’s First Treasurer and Trustee, Warren Logan. She graduated from New York Medical College in 1933 and completed an Internship and Residency at Harlem Hospital. As the first woman to perform heart surgery in the US in 1943, she worked at Harlem Hospital for 35 years. Politically Active, she served on the New York State Committee for Discrimination under Governor Thomas Dewey. Her professional memberships included the New York Cancer Committee, the National Medical Association Committee of the NAACP, and Planned Parenthood.
