National Medical Association and Atlanta Medical Association to Host 15th Annual Walk a Mile With a Child
Atlanta, Georgia – On Saturday, July 30th, the National Medical Association and the Atlanta Medical Association are hosting the 15th annual Walk a Mile with a Child. The event is free for children and families in metro Atlanta and aims to promote physical activity targeting the African American community, especially among youth and young adults, and raise awareness about the growing obesity crisis in America. Nearly 60% of American children do not have healthy cardiorespiratory fitness or nutritional lifestyles, a key measure of physical fitness and overall health. Individuals who are overweight or obese are at greater risk for many diseases, including diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke and many cancers.
What: A free event open to the public that will feature a one-mile walk followed by surprises, demonstrations, giveaways, educational material, health career mentoring, free COVID testing & vaccination and fun-filled activities for all ages.
Where: The event will begin with a one-mile walk around Centennial Olympic Park, followed by a health festival at the World Congress Convention Center.
When: Saturday, July 30th
7:30am: Onsite Registration
8:00am: Welcome, warmup exercises, Atlanta Falcons – Fuel Up to 60
9:00am – noon: Health festival and mentoring (Rain or Shine)
Event partners include Mentoring in Medicine, Auxiliary to the National Medical Association- Project Sun, Atlanta Medical Association, Georgia State Medical Association, Morehouse School of Medicine, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Atlanta Black Nurses Association, NMA Pediatric Section, NMA Dermatology Section, Atlanta Falcons- Fuel Up to Play 60 and the W. Montague Cobb Health Institute.
