NMA Calls for Immediate Removal of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The National Medical Association (NMA), representing the interests of the 50,000 Black physicians nationwide, calls on the President of the United States and the U.S. Congress to immediately remove and replace Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Secretary Kennedy’s continued dismantling of the U.S. public health system, his dangerous spread of misinformation, and his rejection of science-backed vaccines represent an existential threat to the health and safety of every American. His reckless actions have eroded trust, destabilized federal public health agencies, and jeopardized the lives of millions, especially Black communities and other historically marginalized populations who are most vulnerable to health disparities.
Since its founding, the NMA stood at the forefront of efforts to expand health care access, equity, and justice. We cannot and will not remain silent as unsound policy and anti-science rhetoric place American lives at risk. The facts are clear: vaccines save lives, evidence-based medicine protects patients, and public health must be guided by science—not ideology.
Our nation needs and deserves a qualified, knowledgeable, science-driven leader at the helm of HHS—someone who will strengthen, not dismantle, the institutions tasked with protecting public health. We urge the President and Congress to act swiftly to replace Secretary Kennedy with an experienced public health expert whose decisions are grounded in scientific evidence and a commitment to the health of all communities.
The NMA will continue to call out bad policy and resist dangerous efforts that threaten American lives. Our mission has always been clear: to advocate for greater access to care, to defend equity and justice, and to protect the health and well-being of every patient we serve. We unequivocally call for the immediate dismissal of Secretary Kennedy as his continued leadership gravely undermines public health and the trust of the communities we serve.
